A practical guide for parents
Productive physics revision means attempting questions, checking the feedback and changing the next attempt. PhysicsUK helps an A Level pupil do that independently while giving a linked parent a limited, high-level view of progress rather than access to the pupil’s private work.
What productive revision looks like
Reading notes can refresh a topic, but it does not show whether a pupil can choose an equation, explain a physical process or communicate a multi-step argument under exam conditions.
Start without notes: retrieve the equation, definition or principle from memory.
Attempt a course-matched calculation or written question and keep the working visible.
Identify the correct physics, missing step or misconception in the feedback.
Correct the answer or complete the next task while the feedback is still useful.
A realistic starting point
The plan should fit around lessons, homework, other subjects and wellbeing. Near an assessment it can become more focused; during an ordinary teaching week it should remain sustainable.
About 20 minutes of definitions, equations or short multiple-choice checks. Note one weak area rather than trying to cover everything.
About 25 minutes on one or two calculations. Show the equation, substitution, unit and reasoning so feedback can be specific.
About 25 minutes on a longer explanation or mixed question, followed by a correction or next-step task.
This is an example routine, not a universal prescription. A pupil’s teacher is best placed to adjust the amount around current attainment, workload, access needs and upcoming assessments.
The parent progress view
A billing relationship does not automatically provide progress access. While membership is active, the pupil must enable routine sharing before a linked parent can see the limited summary.
| A linked parent may see | A linked parent cannot routinely see |
|---|---|
| High-level activity, study time and question counts | The pupil’s answer text or handwritten working |
| Graded accuracy and learning focus areas when enough evidence exists | Uploaded images, files or diagrams |
| Recent PhysicsUK tools used | AI conversations or detailed formative feedback |
| Safety-event counts, not the pupil’s ordinary private content | School assessments, assignments or private school records |
Safeguarding concerns and formal information-rights requests are handled separately according to the circumstances and applicable law. The dashboard is not a route around the pupil’s privacy.
PhysicsUK and tutoring
| Need | PhysicsUK can help with | A teacher or tutor is better placed for |
|---|---|---|
| Regular practice | Questions available when the pupil is ready, with rapid formative feedback | Setting a personally negotiated schedule and maintaining accountability |
| Misconceptions | Flagging missing physics and suggesting a related next task | Diagnosing a persistent misunderstanding through conversation |
| Exam technique | Repeated original questions with visible marking points and corrections | Judging an entire paper, timing strategy or unusual response |
| Confidence and motivation | Small tasks and evidence of progress | Personal encouragement, pastoral support and adapting to emotion in the moment |
| Practical work | Questions about methods, variables, uncertainty and analysis | Safe supervision and direct assessment of practical competence |
When to seek human support
A human can ask follow-up questions, change explanation and watch the reasoning develop in real time.
Personal accountability, structure or support with anxiety may matter more than another bank of questions.
Predicted grades, access arrangements, assessed practical competence and school decisions require the appropriate professional.
Automated feedback can be wrong. The pupil should check it with their teacher, specification or a trusted worked solution.

Questions
A useful starting point is several short, focused sessions rather than one long block. The right amount depends on the pupil, school workload and proximity to an assessment; completing questions and acting on feedback matters more than simply recording time.
No, not routinely. With active membership and pupil-enabled sharing, a linked parent can see a limited high-level progress summary. They cannot routinely access answer text, handwriting, uploads, AI conversations, detailed feedback, school assessments or assignments.
No. PhysicsUK provides independent practice and rapid formative feedback. A human teacher or tutor is still important when misconceptions persist, motivation or confidence needs personal support, practical work needs supervision or an official judgement is required.
