Scalar and vector quantities

OCR A AS Physics · 2.3.1

Explore scalar and vector quantities within scalars and vectors. Vectors have direction as well as magnitude. Resolving them into perpendicular components makes forces, motion and equilibrium easier to analyse.

Specification outcomes (4)
  • 2.3.1(a) Define scalar and vector quantities and give examples of each.
  • 2.3.1(b) Perform vector addition and subtraction.
  • 2.3.1(c) Use a vector triangle to determine the resultant of any two coplanar vectors by calculation or by scale drawing.
  • 2.3.1(d) Resolve a vector into two perpendicular components, Fx = F cos θ and Fy = F sin θ.
