Only the force component along the motion does work
An angled force can both support an object and move it. Resolving the force identifies the component that transfers energy through a given displacement.
W = Fs cos θ
Follow the reasoning
- Identify the displacement direction.
- Measure the angle between force and displacement.
- Multiply the parallel force component by the displacement.
